What can cookies do?
Cookies can be used to perform a variety of functions on a website. In most situations they are necessary to the functionality of the website, such as handling user logins, e-commerce tracking etc. However, they can also be used in less desireable ways to record your shopping preferences and behavioural patterns allowing companies to display targetted advertising. It’s this form of cookie use, that concerned the EU.
